Sedation Dentistry – Branford, CT

Relax in the Dentist’s Chair

Many people perceive dentistry as being an unpleasant experience. However, that stereotype is inaccurate. The skilled hand of a caring dentist, as well as advances in modern dentistry techniques, mean that practically any procedure can be comfortable for patients. One of those advances is sedation dentistry. At New Haven Dental Group in Branford, we are proud to offer multiple types of sedation to help our patients to help them remain calm, relaxed, and comfortable during their appointments.

Why Choose New Haven Dental Group for Sedation Dentistry?

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Some benefits of sedation dentistry include:

Types of Sedation Dentistry

We offer three different types of sedation:

Oral Conscious Sedation

If oral conscious sedation is right for you, you will take a pill before your procedure begins. As the medicine takes effect, you will begin to feel very relaxed. You might drift off to sleep during your appointment, but it will be easy for us to awaken you with a gentle shake. After your procedure, it is possible that you will have no memory of it.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide is a colorless gas that, when inhaled, produces a calm, relaxed feeling. We administer it through a special type of nasal mask. We can adjust nitrous oxide levels throughout a procedure to ensure you remain comfortable. Once your treatment is finished, the sedation will wear off quickly enough that it will be safe for you to drive home on your own.

General Anesthesia

We only recommend general anesthesia in rare cases. For instance, if a patient has extreme anxiety or they need to undergo extensive oral surgery, general anesthesia might be right for them. This type of sedation produces unconsciousness, and it requires careful monitoring by a specially trained medical professional.

Cost of Sedation Dentistry

The cost of sedation will depend on the type of sedation you undergo. General anesthesia tends to cost more than the other options. Sedation dentistry is not usually covered by insurance unless it is deemed to be a medically necessary part of a procedure. If you would like to pay for your entire treatment, including sedation, with the help of low-interest financing through CareCredit, that is certainly possible.

Are you ready to learn more about sedation dentistry and how it may benefit you? Contact New Haven Dental Group today. We will be happy to answer your questions and help you understand how sedation could change the way you experience dentistry.
